About the event
The Back Story
On February 20, 1929, Lt.Col. Brant, Commander of Crissy Air Field in San Francisco, made a survey of three possible sites for a new airfield in Marin County. (Crissy Field suffered from poor weather conditions.) One week later, a squadron of five planes from Crissy Field landed at Marin Meadows (now our Hamilton Field). Hamilton Field in Novato, California, marks its primary establishment and naming anniversary on July 12, 1932. The base was formally dedicated on May 12, 1935. It was later redesignated as Hamilton Air Force Base on September 18, 1947, and closed in 1997.
